Public Place Smoking
British American Tobacco’s Statement of Business Principles, specifically the Principle of Responsible Product Stewardship, outlines our core belief that public place smoking should be approached in a way that balances the interests of smokers and non-smokers in a practical way.
We believe that the rights of non-smokers to a smoke free environment should be protected and addressed through ensuring that clearly defined smoke free areas are provided in public places. We support the development of comfortable outdoor accommodation for smokers in venues such as restaurants, bars, cafes and nightclubs.
Courtesy of Choice Programme
The Courtesy of Choice Programmeis a global initiative, developed by British American Tobacco, that promotes tolerance and respect among smokers and non-smokers by offering smoking and non-smoking areas, through signage, in recreational locations such as restaurants, bars and hotels.
Carreras believes that owners of bars and restaurants should use the opportunity to designate smoking and non-smoking areas, particularly for outlets that have outdoor accommodation for smoking or ventilation solutions that ensure air quality in line with internationally accepted standards. In addition to providing smoking and non-smoking area signage, Carreras Limited also provides training for an outlet’s wait staff in accomodating the seating preferences of all patrons. We believe that this Courtesy of Choice initiative will ensure a comfortable environment for all patrons at recreational venues.
