Principles and Beliefs
Even though every individual has its own shape, its own way of thinking, its own method to solve problems; there are things they have in common. These commonalities are our beliefs and they are the glue that holds us together:
- Equal opportunity and non-discrimination.
- Free flow of ideas.
- Worker representation and freedom of association.
- Fairness at work and the unacceptability of harassment and bullying.
- That we do not condone or employ child labor.
- That forced or bonded labor is completely unacceptable.
- Performance responsibility.
Our Guiding Principles:
Strength From Diversity
We respect and celebrate each other’s differences and enjoy working together. We harness diversity – of our people, cultures, viewpoints, brands, markets and ideas – to strengthen our business. We value what makes each of us unique.
Open Minded
We are forward looking and anticipate consumer needs, winning with innovative, high quality products. We listen to and genuinely consider other perspectives and changing social expectations. We are open to new ways of doing things.
Freedom Through Responsibility
We always strive to do the right thing, exercising our responsibility to society and other stakeholders. We use our freedom to take decisions and act in the best interest of consumers.
Enterprising Spirit
We have the confidence to passionately pursue growth and new opportunities whilst accepting the considered entrepreneurial risk that comes with it. We are bold and strive to overcome challenges. This is the cornerstone of our success.
Winning with integrity
We believe that a person who’s working on a win-win environment will increase their effectiveness and their level of enjoyment. That’s why if the company grows, we make sure, the person grows with it.

Finance
Bring your difference in Finance.
At Carreras, a commercially astute finance function is critical in making good business decisions – for example, about which brands or areas to invest in, in evaluating and improving returns and, of course, in managing the delivery of consistent profit growth to the shareholder.
Our finance managers are part of the decision-making team, a business partner who is consulted and involved day-to-day, not merely reporting results and setting budgets. Having moved beyond the ‘comfort zone’ of purely technical accountants, into added value decision support, we require people who are commercially astute, intellectually curious and passionate about business life, not just figures.
Whether you are working in tax or treasury, or in the business partnership roles supporting marketing, operations and the other functions, you will need excellent communication and influencing skills to represent finance in the commercial arena.
Finance within Carreras includes:
- Business Partnering
- Understanding the external environment in which business is done.
- Focusing on appropriate resource allocation.
- Managing complexity while saving cost.
- Managing risks.
- Developing systems which drive and reward the right things.
Our finance professionals are assumed to have a high level of technical skill. To act as a business advisor, we expect understanding of the environment in which we do business, globally and locally, as well as a grasp of British American Tobacco’s global strategy and business methodology. An ability to go beyond technical expertise into the ‘big picture’ is therefore key.
